Thurakapalem (తురకపాలెం) is a Village in Muppalla Mandal of Guntur district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. This Village comes under Sattenapalli Assembly Constitution and Narasaraopet Parliamentary Constitution. It is located 3 km far from its Mandal Muppalla, 12 km from Narasaraopet City and 14 km from Sattenapalli City.


The name Thurakapalem is actually formed xxxxxxxxxx. It was founded nearly 200 years ago. Many families left from Gandikota in the 18th century due to Muslim aggression and setteled in Guntur district (Thurakapalem, Ravipadu, Kanaparthi, Attuluru, Thalluru etc.). They are called Gandikota Kammas, from there they were converted to Roman Catholics (Christianity).


GEOGRAPHY  Thurakapalem is located at 16.330°N 80.066°E. It has an average elevation of 92 meters (302 ft)above the sea level and situated on the plains. It is located around 62 miles (100 km) to the west of the Bay of Bengal on the east coast of India. It around covered by rich and fertile agriculture lands with one major irrigation canal. The topography of Thurakapalem is flat.


The Village suffers from hot and humidity climate, the summer especially being extremely trying. The year may be divided into four seasons. Dry and Cool Winter Season (December to February), Summer Season (March to May), South-West Monsoon Season (June to September), Post Monsoon or Retreating Monsoon Season (October to November). The temperature will be higher by 48 °C (118 °F) in summer and the night temperatures lower by 18.6 °C (65.5 °F) in winter, overall yearly average temperature is 27 °C (81 °F). Storms and depression, originating in the Bay of Bengal, cross the east coast of the district causing wide spread heavy rain and strong winds. The rain is experienced mostly by both south-west monsoon and the retreating monsoon. October is the rainiest month of the year, the average rainfall in the village is ---- mm.


DEMOGRAPHICS  Population of the Thurakapalem (as of the 2011 India census) is 1400, Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. The village has an average literacy rate of 99%, male literacy is 99% and female literacy is 99%. In Thurakapalem, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age. A majority of the population is Roman Catholics with very small communities of Hindus


CULTURE  The culture of Village refers to the way of life of the people of Thurakapalem. All the people speaks Telugu. The common traditional clothing for women is a Saree and for men a Pancha or a Lungi and Uttariyam.

People travel to other long distances like Hyderabad using public and private transport from Sattenapalli and Narsaraopet. The nearest railway station is Sattenapalli (SAP) 16 Km from the village. There are several trains to reach most of south India (Hyderabad, Tirupathi, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Bangalore, Cochin, Trivandrum) and few places like Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Surat etc. and other closest railway stations are Narsaraopet (14 km) and Guntur (50km). The nearest airport to the village is Vijayawada Airport (105 km). It is local airport, offers limited flights to places such as Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore. The closest International airport is located at Hyderabad (262 km).

CULTIVATION  The person of Thurakapalem cultivates the food crops Paddy (rice) and commercial crops like cotton, mirchi and subabul (Leucaena leucocephala). There is Nagarjuna Sagar Right canal branch beside the village which helps the people to yield the crops and as well as on seasonal rains for the cultivation. These people always enthusiastic in adopting new techniques in cultivation. Crops put the village economically strong.

POLITICS  The Political history of the village is most of the people support to Telugu Dasam Party (TDP). The sarpanch of grama panchayat is Mr. Maddineni Showraiah and vice-sarpanch is Mr. Bellamkonda Thomasaiah from the date 18th July 2013.
